Older Person Computer?

My mother is very frustrated with the computer she got as a gift a few months ago. It's from Free Geek and runs Linux. She has no clue how to run Linux, and her efforts to get Netflix to work on it failed. She also has not been able to find a good solitaire on Linux that displays large enough cards.

Her only Windows experience is with XP and, to a lesser extent, Vista. She dislikes the idea of learning a new OS, and finds the cost difficult (she, like me at the moment, is on a fixed income).

I feel bad for Mom. I really want Netflix to work for her if she still wants it.

ow much would it cost to put Windows on her FG machine legally, and how difficult would it be to bring online media to a dedicated Luddite like Mom?

Looks like you can get windows 10 for about $40. Then follow this:

Ubuntu is about as easy as it gets. It's almost Mac-like. If you install Google Chrome for her, it sounds like it would be perfect. Netflix works right out of the box if it's on Chrome or Firefox.

How would she feel about a Chromebook?

There are some really affordable options out there, and it sounds like based on her needs it might be a perfect fit without all the typical OS stuff to worry about. Plus there are Chrome solitaire apps out there too, https://chrome.google.com/webstore/sear ... e?hl=en-US

Even better, most of them now support Android apps so there are tons of solitaire options. I think Chromebooks are perfect for people without much computer experience.
