Re: HW Porn: Dan-Case A4-SFX V3 Workstation Build

Wow, that's a great SFF build. It looks like that's almost the same size as one of the alienware GPU docks.
Nice work!

Re: Build log equipment?

Sorry for the massively delayed response... I don't have a fixed budget in mind yet, but if I were to have to ballpark, I'd probably be starting in the $500-700 range. I'm mostly just curious about what people's recommendations are for gear for doing build-logs, streaming, or still photos of their w...

Build log equipment?

Heya gang, I know that we've got a lot of Modding talent here, and I'd like to pick your brain in a bit of a non-standard direction. When you're making your Build Logs/Vlogs, what equipment do you use? I.E. Are there mics, cameras, lights, settings, backdrops etc that you think are amazing? And why?...

Re: ISP challenge - i need distribution to 100+ long term residents

It's funny, it didn't even occur to me that redistribution would be a thing. But I'm sure it should have. Part of my (waaaaaay off) retirement plan is to have some rental properties to supplement my income eventually, and the idea of centrally aggregating the network to multiple units seems like it ...

Re: Poll: Where are your games installed?

I try to keep my NVME down to OS and a couple of games that I play pretty frequently. The "bulk" of my Steam/Origin/Uplay library lives on SSDs, and I've got a few miscellaneous games that live on a WD spinning drive that used primarily for data/stagnant files. I think that it's going to be a gradua...

I'm an IT Infrastructure manager for a video game company in LA. I've got a team of 12 Network & Systems Engineers that work on giving Game & Champion Designers, Artist, Audio Engineers, Finance, Facilities, and anyone else at the company a stable and scalable platform to build their tools/systems o...

Re: Best brands for hard line, fittings, and fluid?

For "deep cleaning" a rad, there are a few options... If you're not running it in a loop, just cleaning it individually, then a vinegar/distilled water mix works. If you're going for a full loop flush, and it's got any nickel plated anything, don't use vinegar. (I did and even using a really diluted...

M.2 drives and heat

In a giveaway thread in general, someguyrb asked if M.2's benefit from heatsinks. The thread is locked because the giveaway is over, but I wanted to thread the discussion here in case anyone was interested. AFAIK, M.2 drives definitely benefit from additional cooling. Puget Systems did a test on whe...

Slightly OT, but the privatization of spaceflight really makes me think about this book:

That being said, I freakin love living in the future. ;)

Anecdotally, I also got started with Country as the first music I listened to.
I grew up on a 400 acre Cattle Ranch, and there were two stations:
Preaching/Gospel & Country Western. :P

What's your favorite case to build in?

Most everyone's got that one case that was just smooth as silk to build in. No gotchas, no bad fit because you didn't measure in advance and your gpu is the size of a SpaceX test vehicle... You get the idea.

What is/was your favorite?

Thread of Music

I was thinking that since one of the introduction prompts was for what type of music you like, it might be fun to start a song/playlist thread. I'll lead off: What got me from there to here... This playlist shows off a lot of just how old I am ( :P ), and is a work in progress around the different m...

When did you join PDX & why?

Remaking my new account here got me to thinking about when I was first introduced to PDXLAN. We'd been running WVG for a little while, and a couple of our members had made the trek to Portland from Eugene (Heh, now I road-trip up from LA...) to go to this massive LAN party. They had come back and to...
